Mind Over Bladder
Great news: your bladder can be trained! Why? Because your bladder is surrounded by muscles.
Many studies support bladder retraining as a helpful tool for people with overactive bladder (OAB). The goal is to gain control over your bladder and lengthen the time between your bathroom visits.
Be sure to talk to your healthcare professional before starting any new diet or exercise routine.
How does it work? First, figure out how often you use the bathroom. An easy way to do this is with a symptom tracker.
Next, set a goal to increase the time between bathroom visits, even by a little. Try adding 15 minutes to start. So, if you go every hour, try to go every hour and 15 minutes. Then gradually add more and more time between trips to the bathroom.
As you start training your bladder, try to go at scheduled times. Stick to your schedule, even if you feel the urge to go sooner or don’t need to go at all.
